The night kicked off with an address by SWM President Jan Brown thanking alll for attending and recognising the hard work that has already been done by the coaches,teams and volunteers in getting the teams prepared for the season. Special thanks was given to Robertson Gardens and our support sponsors for there continued contribution. New Sponsors that have joined the PIRATE ship in 2012 are NAB, Escape Travel, Bezzera Australia and Australian Corporate Maintenance.
The coaches of the DLEAGUE and QBL teams announced their lineups for 2012 and the excitement level grew as the Tall ships sailed onto the stage.
For the first time ever the Mens teams will have not one but two Imports- The excitement machine in Kenny Barnes and the inside muscle of Robert Lippman- this is in addition to our own stars in Brendan Teys(fresh from another season with the Blaze- where he has just won the coaches award- a great achievement) Nate Niesler (Capt) ,the evergreen Verle Williams and even an Under 18’s player in Lliam Compton –PIRATES PATHWAYS IN DEVELOPMENT FROM OUR JUNIOR RANKS- 2003 Championship winning Coach Peter Pollock takes on the Head Coach role in 2012.
Our Women’s team sees Scott McKenzie taking on the Coaching role after a stint up in Mackay, and we have plenty of PIRATES JUNIORS who have now progressed to the QBL level- with leadership from the Wallis sisters we have the likes of Maddy & Grace Willey, Christina Sekona, Olivia Thomas ,Katie Brown, Renee Teys ,Jess Poulton and young gun Kalani Purcell (silver medalist for QLD south at recent Nationals) all turning out for the QBL Team.
THE SEASON KICKS OFF ON SATURDAY 12TH MAY AS THE PIRATES HOST GOLD COAST 3PM DLEAGUE,5PM WOMEN AND 7PM MEN. SEE YOU AT THE PIRATE SHIP
