Magic to Light up Vic Metro State Squads

Hawthorn Magic athletes and Coaches have been recognised for their hard work and determination by earning places in Vic Metro squads for upcoming trial tournaments.

As we have previously announced Kelly Breazeale will lead the Under 18 Girls Vic Metro team. She will now be Joined by Gary Cleeland our Division 1 Womens coach who will be an assistant coach under Kelly. Congratulations Gary.

In other coaching appointments

  • Hannah Lowe will be an Assistant Coach with the Under 15 Boys Southern Cross Challenge team and
  • Lucas Kotros will be an Assistant Coach with the Under 14 Boys Southern Cross Challenge team.

Congratulations to these two coaches who have put in many hard yards at Magic and our now seeing the benefit of that Hard work with recognition from Basketball Victoria and a sense of pride with Hawthorn Magic Athletes now being selected in state Squads.

 

SOUTHERN CROSS CHALLENGE ATHLETE & COACH SELECTIONS

Basketball Victoria and Country programs will come together to play each other in a new basketball Victoria initiative. The ‘Southern Cross Challenge’ (SCC) will be conducted from the 21st to the 23rd January 2012 in Ballarat. This event will then be held annually on the weekend preceding the Australia Day Weekend in January each year. The SCC has been designed to give athletes at the Under 14 and Under 15 level an opportunity to compete in a round robin style tournament. It’s a fantastic development opportunity for the athletes, exposing them to future challenges that may lie ahead. Vic Metro will take 8 Victoria Metropolitan teams (2 Under 14 Boys & Girls Teams and 2 Under 15 Boys & Girls Teams) to play against athletes from Victoria Country. The players have now been selected.

 EAST COAST CHALLENGE TEAMS

The 2012 U16 Victorian Metro NITP Men’s and Women's players that will compete in the East Coast Challenge held at Hills Basketball Stadium, (Fred Caterson Reserve), Castle Hill, NSW. (11th –13th January 2012) have now been selected.

 The ECC is a fantastic tournament that provides a great challenge for athletes, playing with and competing against Vic Metro’s better athletes, as well as the best that NSW Metropolitan, South Australia and the ACT can provide.

 **please note the 2 teams for both male and female will be announced closer to the date.
