Moama’s use of the wind advantage was a key factor in its 15-point win at Finley in the Murray Football League on Saturday, 13.16 (94) to 11.13 (79).
The Cats had first use of the breeze but squandered it, kicking just 2.7 to 1.3 in the opening term.
The Magpies then showed the home team how to use conditions at Finley Recreation Reserve to advantage, booting seven goals to one in the second quarter to take a 31-point lead into half-time.
Finley fought back in the premiership quarter to reduce the margin to one point by the final break, but Moama held its nerve to kick clear with four goals to two in the last term to secure the win.
Full-forward Angus Grigg and James Scambler each kicked four goals, while Jade Keam chipped in with three goals for the travelling side.
James Gilligan had a fantastic game to be named the best player, while Scambler, Tom Gilligan, Grigg, co-coach Luke Eldridge and Jade Keam impressed.
? Both reserves sides were guilty of profligacy in front of goals in the first half, but the Magpies improved to ease to a comfortable 11.18 (84) to 5.8 (38) win.
Moama kicked a staggering 11 behinds and just two goals in the opening half to hold an 11-point advantage, but the team showed its dominance to push on for the victory.
Kyle Phipps booted four goals for the away side, while Tom Jackson and Kyran Kelly each kicked two goals.
Garrett McCartney was the side’s best player, while Glen Paterson and Clay Bookham also impressed.
