Mixed results on Day 1 of the juniro Interleague Carnival being held in Sale.
In the Under 16s, the Traralgon boys encountered Sale first up who were on fire from the outset, with much attacking football that put the score on the board. As the game went on the boys picked up, but by then the damage had been done and went down by a few goals.
In their second game, they faced off against Bairnsdale hoping for an improved performance from their first game. They were in the hunt early, but let the opposition back into the game and trailled by 4 goals going into the last quarter. In a fantastic team effort, the boys rallied and managed to snatch a 2 point victory, which was even more pleasing considering they were kicking into a strong breeze in the last quarter.
This keeps their chances alive for a Grand Final spot on Sunday, but will need to beat Omeo in their final game on Day 2 on Wednesday.
The Under 14s went down by one point to Sale in their first game today. In what proved to be a real arm wrestle, this game could have gone either way, with both teams making the most of their opportunities. In the second game, central Gippsland was up and running fromt he start and got in front and stayed there for the whole game. The Traralgon boys played without any luck today and just could not grasp on how to play in the strong blustery conditions. Will be keen to redeem themselves on Day 2, with a spot in the Grand Final all but gone now.
The Under 12s played with much spirit and endeavour, but they too were unable to register a win on Day 1. Thye also had a very tight game with Sale, but were unable to get on the scoreboard, while they did very weel to restrict the scoring chances of the opposition, but went down ina close one. In theier second game againts Central Gippsland, the kids struggled with the windy conditions, and with Central Gippsland scoring when they had the chance. they were able to notch a win over the Traralgon boys who never gave up. I am sure they will be looking for a couple of wins on Day 2 just like the Under 14s.
