Kilsyth Cobras v Minecraft Qld Comets @ 6pm

The Comets tip off Round 3 keen to atone for last fortnight when they were unable to claim a victory but on a positive note, their most effective offensive performance came against Kilsyth in Round 2.

The Cobras are at home this weekend which will provide a significant boost as they look to cement their place in the top four, an aim which is made easier by Red Dust (who sit one point above them on the ladder in third spot) having the bye this round. In their last meeting, Leanne Del Toso proved unstoppable with 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Be Active Western Stars v Sydney Uni Flames @ 8pm

Following a bye in Round 2, the Stars have dropped to fifth on the ladder but normality will be restored if they can perform as they did in Round 1 when they raced to a 3-1 record.

The Flames are in their way on Friday night though, sitting first with a 7-1 record after sweeping Round 2 courtesy of stirring performances from Annabelle Lindsay and Sarah Stewart. Their one blemish on the year came against the Stars though as they had their least productive offensive game while Chihiro Kitada had a triple-double and Amber Merritt tallied 33 points. Liesl Tesch did not play that game though and could be the difference-maker for Sydney Uni.

 

Saturday 20^th May -

Kilsyth Cobras v Sydney Metro Blues @ 10am

Kilsyth’s second game of the weekend comes against Sydney Metro as the clubs meet again following a tight battle in Round 2.

The Blues were led by Bridie Kean (18 points, 13 rebounds, 17 assists) and Cobi Crispin (eight points, 11 boards, 11 assists) but Kilsyth cut a 15-point deficit at quarter-time down to five in the final term before Georgia Munro-Cook (25 points) squashed the comeback hopes of the Cobras. A similarly slow start will make it difficult for Kilsyth this weekend as the Blues look to consolidate second place.

Minecraft Qld Comets v Sydney Uni Flames @ 12pm

Both teams will back up from the night before on Saturday afternoon in a battle of first vs. seventh on the ladder coming into the round.

Last fortnight, the Comets fell by 55 points to the Flames but had five players hit the scoreboard which is a feat they will be aiming to replicate this weekend. Turnovers and second chance points proved their undoing with Sydney Uni capitalizing on a 22-3 advantage in offensive rebounds while Stewart tallied eight steals.

Kilsyth Cobras v Be Active Western Stars @ 2pm

The Cobras will be hoping to utilise their home court advantage when they play their third game of the weekend and second of the day against the Stars who they fell to in Round 1 by 28 points.

The Stars finished with 19 more field goal attempts than their opponents while assisting on 19 of 30 baskets which is a recipe for success. Sarah Vinci dished four of those assists in a strong performance while Del Toso will be aiming to match Merritt (39 points) on the scoreboard to give the home side a chance.

Minecraft Qld Comets v Sydney Metro Blues @ 4pm

After the Comets struggled to put together a winning score last round, they will come up against a Blues team on Saturday afternoon that is giving up just 49 points per contest.

That does not bode well for Queensland’s chances but Sydney Metro only average 55.5 points at the offensive end which will give the Comets hope that they can match them on the scoreboard. Players like Ashley Wardman and Georgia Bishop-Cash have the ability to lead the Comets but they will need to improve their 22% field goal shooting if they are to lead their team to victory.

 

Sunday 21^st May -
 

Minecraft Qld Comets v Be Active Western Stars @ 9am

Playing their first four-game round of the year, Queensland finish off the weekend against the Stars, another team they have not faced yet in 2017.

The Stars will not have played since the previous afternoon and are facing just their third game of the weekend which should give them an edge over the Comets while they are also averaging 37 more points per game which will be a major obstacle for Queensland to overcome.

Kilsyth Cobras v Sydney Uni Flames @ 11am

The final game of the round for both clubs will be an intriguing contest as the ladder-leading Flames take on the home team in Kilsyth.

While the Cobras sit at 2-5 coming into this weekend, they have won their last two games and if they can carry that momentum through to Sunday, Kilsyth may be able to get closer than their two previous clashes with Sydney Uni which they have lost by an average of 33 points. In their most recent meeting, Del Toso top-scored with 28 points, Shelley Chaplin had 12 assists and Teisha Shadwell collected five offensive rebounds but the Flames shot at 60% to win 60-40.

Be Active Western Stars v Sydney Metro Blues @ 1pm

Round 3 is capped off with the Blues playing their third game of the weekend while the Stars hit the court for the fourth time overall and second time within four hours which could prove to be a deciding factor.

The Stars’ only loss this year came at the hands of Sydney Metro in Round 1 as they hit six more field goals on three less attempts. Merritt still had 24 points and Kitada recorded a triple-double but the combination of Kean and Munro-Cook (25 points, 22 rebounds, 16 assists combined) was too much to overcome.
