Three teams swept their way through Round 2 with the Sydney Metro Blues, Queensland Comets and Be Active Western Stars each taking home three victories over the weekend.

The Blues took on the Sydney Uni Flames in a Grand Final replay and repeated their efforts from the Championship winning game, taking care of the Flames by an average margin of 20.3 points.

They were low-scoring meetings with Sydney Metro only surpassing 50 points once but that style suited them as they held Sydney Uni to 23% shooting while Georgia Munro-Cook recorded three consecutive double-doubles for 13.3 points and 15 boards.

Kylie Gauci shone at both ends of the floor, setting the tone for the team defensively with six steals per game in combination with 13 points and 5.7 assists while Jess Cronje and Daisy Eaglesome off the bench kept the scoreboard ticking over as the Blues maintained second spot on the ladder.

Brodie Palmer continues to own the front court for the Flames with 8.3 points and 14.7 rebounds and a total of nine offensive boards while Tracey Carruthers and Hannah Dodd also performed relentlessly.

The Blues sit second on the ladder due to the unbeaten seven-game winning streak of the Stars who defeated the Red Dust Lady Heelers while dropping just one quarter across three contests.

Red Dust did win the final term of their third meeting as they persisted against the odds with Kathleen O’Kelly-Kennedy averaging a double-double and Shelley Chaplin (8.3 points, 8.3 assists) and Clare Nott (10.7 points) showing good signs.

They were unable to slow down Chihiro Kitada (15.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists) or Amber Merritt (29.7 points, 11 rebounds, three assists) though.

Georgia Inglis and Sarah Vinci also chimed in and if they can keep up the pace they have set through the opening two rounds, the Stars could be the team to beat in 2018.

The Kilsyth Cobras fell to the Comets on Friday night (by 18 points) and on Saturday afternoon (by nine points) and the trend looked to be continuing on Sunday when Queensland opened up a double-digit advantage in the third quarter.

However, Kilsyth finished the term on a 13-3 run thanks to Leanne Del Toso and Jamie Villalon. The Comets responded to score the first six points of the fourth but a three-point play from Teisha Shadwell put the Cobras in front with just over two minutes remaining.

Georgia Bishop-Cash and Cobi Crispin steadied the ship though and while Shadwell hit another bucket, time ran out for the Cobras to pull off the comeback as they fell in the final clash by a point.

Crispin was the standout for Queensland across the weekend, averaging 28.3 points, 11 boards, four assists and 4.3 steals but Alison Herring impressed as well, hitting double-digits in all three games including Friday night when she came off the bench while Ashley Wardman averaged 11 points per clash.

Kilsyth sit inside the top four despite the disappointing weekend, thanks in large part to Shadwell (17.7 points, 14.7 rebounds) and Del Toso (18 points, nine boards, 5.3 assists, 2.3 steals) but they will also be buoyed by having six players score in the first meeting after Tina Mackenzie showed off with four points and three steals.
