ROUND 5 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

In between international tournaments for the Australian Gliders, Annabelle Lindsay led the Sydney Uni Flames to split their weekend against the ladder-leading Stars and claim the Round 5 Player of the Week award.

Lindsay averaged a double-double of 19 points and 14.5 rebounds across the two games and their results will give them confidence that they can make some noise in the final weeks of the regular season, despite still sitting at the bottom of the ladder.

On Friday night, the Flames got the jump on the Stars with a 23-8 first quarter and Lindsay set the tone with the first basket of the game before recording six by quarter-time.

She then had another five points in the second period and was close to a double-double by half-time with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lindsay set Sydney Uni up for a thrilling two-point victory as she finished with 15 points, 12 boards and five assists while her defence was also exemplary, collecting two steals and a block on Gliders team mate Sarah Vinci.

The following night, the Flames again gained some separation by quarter-time with a five-point lead and while Lindsay was quiet on the scoreboard, she tallied two assists and a steal to still have an impact.

The Stars responded though and moved back in front by three points at half-time before extending that margin to 12 at the last change but Sydney Uni did have one last run left in them.

Lindsay sparked the visitors at the start of the final term, scoring their first four points and while they still trailed by 11 with two minutes remaining, the Flames were on the charge.

She then went on to tally nine points in the final minutes, including three clutch free-throws to send a few shockwaves through the Stars camp.

Ultimately though, the run came too late for Sydney University as they fell by five points.

Lindsay finished with a team-high 23 points, game-high 17 rebounds as well as three assists and four steals while playing all 40 minutes of the contest.

Annabelle Lindsay Round 5 Stats: 19 points on 16-43 (37%) shooting, 14.5 rebounds (5.5 offensive), four assists and three steals per game.
