ANZ futureFERNS for Year 1-4 returns in Term 2!

Are you a keen-bean netballer in Year 1-4 who's been waiting patiently to get into the fantastic sport of NETBALL? Well, now's your chance! In Term 2 we welcome the return of the newly unveiled junior netball programme - ANZ futureFERNS run by the Motu Kairangi Junior Netball Satellite with support from the Netball Wellington Centre.  This programme allows players as young as 5 years old to learn the basics and have a ton of fun in the process!

Following the introduction of this programme previously called the Junior Netball Programme run by the Netball Wellington Centre in Terms 1, 2 & 3 last year, the feedback from attendees has been so positive and the requests for MORE have been so forthcoming we are excited to be able to support Motu Kairangi as the Junior Netball Satellite who caters for the South-East Suburbs to offer the programme in Term 2 in 2015!

The future plan is for our three affiliated Junior Netball Satellites based through-out Wellington to adopt the Junior Netball Programme to form part of their own winter competitions.  Motu Kairangi (Eastern & Southern Suburbs), Northern Suburbs and Wellington West are making plans to implement their own programmes over the coming year.

This Netball New Zealand endorsed junior netball programme offers Year 1- 4 the opportunity to explore netball and learn basic movement skills in a fun and positive learning environment.

Each week a new skill will be introduced to start each session followed by the chance to put their newly acquired skills into a modified game of netball.

Year 1&2 attendees make use of smaller tactile balls - this allows players to catch and throw more easily and accurately while reducing fear of being hit by the ball.  Softer balls also make for fewer tears during the learning phase allowing time for coordination to kick-in when inadvertently missing catches!  The Year 1&2 game consists of a 4-a-side game played within one third of a standard netball court.  Hoops are also lower to increase the feel-good factor gained from greater shooting success.  We even engage parents to stand at each end with a hula hoop to increase the fun and score-rate even further! Year 3&4 attendees make use of small size 4 balls (as opposed to the adult size 5 balls).  This allows players to catch and throw more easily and accurately as they increase their confidence and coordination.  The Year 3&4 game consists of a 5-a-side game played over two thirds of a standard netball court.  Hoops are kept low to aid higher shooting success and keep the flow of the ball moving from end to end. Please follow this link to access an outline of the 5 v 5 game below courtesy of the Netball New Zealand website.

We welcome Team Entries for 5+ players from the same school attending along with a Team Coach/Parent Helper. The cost for Team Entries is $40 per player.
Participants are also welcome to take part in the programme as individuals if their school is unable to enter a full team at a cost of $60 each.

The programme further offers a FREE development opportunity to coaches/parents to get involved by assisting our Coordinators for the 8 week programme.  Those keen to learn more about the game of netball and how to support young player's development will be guided to assist with the delivery of practical components and oversee participant's level of understanding during each activity.  Includes a free 1.5 hour workshop to help you get on your way (date to be advised upon registration).  In this way we aim to support you in building confidence as coaches of junior netball teams and furthering their success.

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
