Pre-season for the most of players has been underway now for many months and will culminate in Gala Day, before the season proper gets begins.
However, it is not too late for any interested young women age 15+ to come along experience the sport.
The focus of Gala Day will be a ‘Come and Try’ day for any players interested in playing or being involved with women’s football, as well as an opportunity for each team to get some match practice prior to the start of the season.
The Northern Gala Day will take place from 11am at Rocherlea Football Ground with games between Launceston, Spreyton and Yeoman.

The Southern Gala Day will take place from 12.30pm at KGV, Glenorchy, with games between Clarence, Hobart and North Hobart. Local contacts in the south are:

Through individual club efforts and the support of AFL Tasmania, Women’s football in the state continues to strengthen each year. This year, Tasmania has also committed to sending a team to the Women’s AFL National Championship, to be held in Adelaide in June. It will be the first time Tasmania has been represented at the Nationals.
AFL Tasmanian CEO, Scott Wade, said “Women have played and continue to play important role in the fabric of footballs clubs around our state and now through the AFL TASWAFL, young women are staring to enjoy our great game as players.
There are great growth opportunities in women football and we look forward to working with AFL TASWAFL to promote and grow the game.”
The season kicks off on the May 1, 2011.
