AFL Tasmania is pleased to announce its Youth Girls Team representatives ahead of the AFL National Youth Girls Championships in May.
Tasmania is will again team up with the Northern Territory, with the combined team being known as the Thunder Devils and each having 13 representatives.
The Championships will be held in Mandurah, Western Australia from Sunday 3 May to Friday 8 May.
Tasmanian coach Andy Smith, who will co-coach the Thunder Devils, said competition for spots was very healthy and he’s extremely pleased with his Tasmanian contingent.
“As female football continues to grow here in Tassie our selectors had the hard task picking a side, however we are really happy with the players selected and it gives us a group that contains a good mix of girls from last years side along with some very skilful players who will make their debut in Thunder Devils colours this year”, Mr Smith added.
With a growing talent base there are some encouraging signs for the future, with Tasmanian positioning itself well for a possible strand alone team competing in the championships in 2016.
Tasmanian Football Council General Manager, Barry Gibson, was impressed with the spread of talent that had been chosen to represent the state at the championships. “It’s really pleasing to see that all our regions are represented in the team, which augurs well for the growth of female participation and competitions across the state. We are committed to growing female footy and representative opportunities such of this compliment our endeavours”, Mr Gibson said.
