If the first round set the tempo with an all out assault on the senses with big hits and great plays then round 2 took it to the next level with teams looking to secure their place in the finals. The state of origin rivalry might be famous for being between NSW and QLD but there was no love loss when the GIO NSW Gladiators played Victoria Protect Thunder in the days first game. In a tough battle with plenty of action NSW emerged victorious 58 – 43.
The second game saw the Asteron Western Enforcers take on the Suncorp QLD Cyclones in a must win game for the Enforcers to stay in contention for the finals. Unfortunately QLD were too strong taking the game 73 – 36 and in the process guaranteeing a top 3 finish.
The game of the round and one of the most anticipated of the tournament was the showdown between Vero New Zealand Te Waka Hou and the GIO NSW Gladiators. Even more crucial is that it would decide the first two positions on the ladder moving into the finals. In a gruelling contest with steel being bent NSW came out on top with a 61 – 51 win to earn the top spot on the ladder.
The Suncorp QLD Cyclones were looking to continue their good form from their first game against Victoria Protect Thunder and did so with a solid 56 – 50 win securing their finals birth while Victoria sealed up the fourth spot.
The last game of round 2 pitted the Asteron Western Enforcers valiantly trying to get their first win of the tournament but Vero New Zealand Te Waka Hou played with vigour and an emphatic 66 – 28 victory heading into the finals.

Friday sees the finals take centre stage. The first semi will see Vero New Zealand Te Waka Hou up against the Suncorp QLD Cyclones followed by the GIO NSW Gladiators playing Victoria Protect Thunder. This will be followed by the teams that are defeated in the semi finals playing off for the bronze medal which will then lead into the exhibition match which will be a short fun and friendly game showcasing the sport between players and sponsors.
The Grand Final will tip off at 7pm and be broadcast live on this website at www.nwrl.sportingpulse.net.
