15U WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 6 RECAP

 

Game #23 – New Brunswick 48 Manitoba 45

Manitoba ended their tournament by losing a tight game to New Brunswick by a 48-45 score. New Brunswick exacted revenge on Manitoba who had beaten them the last time the two teams met. Manitoba had a 7 point lead early in the third period but New Brunswick came from behind and held on late to defeat Toba.  

The Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game was New Brunswick’s Jennifer McTague. She had a game high 18 points and added 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Manitoba was led by Sara Ibrahim’s 12 points.  

New Brunswick, Manitoba, and Newfoundland ended their 3-team round robin with identical 1-1 records. Manitoba ends up ranked 7th, Newfoundland 8th, and New Brunswick 9th due to point differential.

 

Game #24 – Nova Scotia 76 Saskatchewan 52

Nova Scotia won the 5th place game against Saskatchewan by a convincing 76-52 score thanks in large part to a 17-6 run in the second period. Nova Scotia kept the momentum in the second half, not allowing Saskatchewan to climb back into the game.

Nova Scotia’s guard Jayla Verney had a huge game with 24 points to be named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Britton Belyk had a team high 16 points for Alberta.

Next on centre court is the 15U women’s bronze medal game between British Columbia and Alberta.

 

Game #25 – British Columbia 63 Alberta 53

British Columbia claimed the bronze medal at the 2011 15U Canadian National Basketball Championships with a 63-53 win over Alberta. With Alberta up by 5 in the 2nd period, BC took the lead for good with a 16-9 run.

Michelle Bos had a game high 23 points, and added 5 rebounds and 3 steals to be named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Kacie Bosch led her Albertan squad with 15 points.

Next on centre court is the 17U women’s bronze medal game between Quebec and Nova Scotia. Following that is the 15U women’s gold medal match between Ontario and Quebec.

 

Game #26 – Ontario 76 Quebec 59

Ontario are the 2011 15U national basketball champions after their 76-59 win over Quebec. Ontario jumped out to a 31-12 lead in the first period and sailed to an easy victory from there.

Mikalah Mulrain had a game high 17 points, and added an astounding 19 rebounds to be named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Laurie Marchand led her Quebec side with 15 points.

Next on centre court is the 17U women’s gold medal match between Ontario and British Columbia. The gold medal game will be followed by the closing ceremonies to end the 2011 15U & 17U National Basketball Championships.

Game #24 – Saskatchewan 88 Newfoundland 51

Saskatchewan finished their tournament play with an 88-51 victory over Newfoundland. The win ranks Saskatchewan 7th, and Newfoundland 8th. Saskatchewan went on a 24-5 run in the second period on way to a route of Newfoundland.

13 points and 8 rebounds by Saskatchewan’s Madeline Humbert earned her the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. The games top scorer was Sydney Ezekiel of Newfoundland who had 17.

Next up on centre court is the 17U Women’s 5th place game between Manitoba and Alberta.

 

 

Game #25 – Manitoba 66 Alberta 62

Manitoba finished the tournament on a winning note by narrowly escaping with a 66-62 victory over the Albertans. The game was back and forth the entire contest. Alberta had a 1 point lead at half but Toba outscored Alberta by 5 in the final two periods to sneak out the win.

Megan Noonan hit 4 three pointers for 12 points and added 5 assists and 3 steals for the winning Manitoba side. She was named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Lauren Anderson led Manitoba with 15 points. Alberta’s Renee Byrne had a game high 21 points.

Due to the victory Manitoba places 5th in the 17U Women’s category and Alberta 6th.

 

Game #26 – Quebec 79 Nova Scotia 36

Quebec claimed the bronze medal at the 2011 17U Canadian National Basketball Championships with a 79-36 blow-out over team Alberta. Quebec led from the opening minute and never let up from there.

Jenn Silver had a game high 19 points and added 12 rebounds to be named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Ainsley MacIntyre led the Nova Scotia team with 13 points.

Next on centre court is the 15U women’s gold medal game between Quebec and Ontario. Following that is the 17U women’s gold medal match between Ontario and British Columbia.

 

Game #27 – Ontario 80 British Columbia 41

Ontario are the 2011 17U national basketball champions after their 80-41 win over British Columbia. Ontario jumped out to a 24-5 lead in the first period and sailed to an easy victory from there.

Katie Polischuk had a game high 16 points to be named the Nothers/Home Run Sports player of the game. Alisha Roberts led her British Columbia side with 13 points.
