Season 2- Round 1 Summary and Accolades

Futsal Premier League

Round one of the GESAC Premier League kicked off with a belter. Ultimates pushed Inter Minan to the end thanks to a stand out game from M George. It wasn’t enough as A Thomson led Inter Minan to the first win of the season with a brace. The final score was 4-3. We picked Inter Minan to take big scalps in our season preview, and scalps don’t get bigger than the returning premiers.

Wolves have high hopes this season and were looking to open their account against Craigeburn Nightshift who was also impressive in grading. Wolves looked menacing from kick off. The score line doesn’t do the game justice, with Wolves winning 7-2. T Johnston was the lone goal scorer for Craigeburn Nightshift and A Anastasio started his season with a hat trick for Wolves and MOTM honours.

The Comebacks will be looking to back up their form from last season with more wins this time around. They faced Team N/A who had a narrow loss last week. U Zuriel who was in the Div 1 team of the season last year led his side to the 7-2 win with a brace. He had great service from his team mates and can expect to challenge for the Golden Boot. S Grotter backed up his great performance last week with 2 goals for himself and is one to watch through the season.

Glen’s Lemons had a thrilling win last week and faced returning powerhouse Dynamo Kebab. Two goals from J Murfet couldn’t drag Glen’s Lemons over the line. The game ended 9-5 and another impressive exhibition from Dynamo Kebab. They passed the ball magically and will be a force this season in the GESAC Premier League.

Futsal League Championship

Kittens FC and FOB 3.0 have had great battles in the past, and this week was no exception. The midfield battle was one for the ages, and there was no love lost between these contenders. Chris was solid for FOB 3.0 and Ross starred for Kittens FC. The game could have gone either way with minutes left. It was Kittens FC who was ahead when the final whistle blew and starts their season off with a win: 5-4 the score line.

Rossly’s XI move up to face Hardly Athletic who were devastating in their grading. Hardly Atheltic defended brilliantly all game, making it really hard work for Rossly’s XI to gather any momentum. S McCarthy was threatening all game and capitalised on his chances scoring a hat trick. He proved to be the difference in the 4-1 win. They have high hopes this season and it’s the start to their campaign they needed.

Sweaty-co Madrid was out to prove a point after missing out on Premier League Qualification. They faced ClassOnGrass who also felt stiff to miss qualifying. C Scimia took matters into his own hands and smashed four goals for ClassOnGrass in a classy showing. He was outmatched by Mick who booted four of his own and helped Sweaty-co Madrid to a 8-4 victory. These teams displayed great skills and can expect to push the upper echelon of the ladder by season’s end.

Red Devils have been a competitive side for a long time and teams hate playing against them, as they give 100% every week. 2 Goals 1 Cup have high expectations this season and were eager to start their season with a W. As expected, Red Devils came to play and showed signs that they can compete with the best. 2 Goals 1 Cup were too classy in the end and were victorious 4-3.

Futsal League One

After a strong finish to the year Instinct are tipped to be big improvers this season. They battled The Will Smiths who typically start the season well. Both teams are hoping for top 4 berths after narrowly missing out last season. It was a low scoring affair with multiple chances going wide for both teams. The Will Smiths managed to grapple their way to the lead and hold on for the 3-2 victory. They will want to continue this form into next week to avoid a repeat of last season. Look for Instinct to come back stronger next week.

Megkinnon shape up as the surprise packet after returning to the league this season. Hackers wanted to get out of the blocks with a win this season, but they’ll have to wait until next week. Megkinnon defended with desperation and kept Hackers to a single goal in the 3-1 win.

Shampagnee United are the hot favourites to take out the GESAC League One championship. Buzzards were their first opponent for the season that is somewhat of an unknown prospect. Buzzards had their moments and they could’ve had a win if more had gone their way. But Shampagnee United stuck tough and proved their credentials as title favourites, winning 5-3.

Futsal MLS

Da Boiz were full of confidence after a comfortable win in round 2. They met Real Madkids who have shown early form this season taking out last year’s champs in round 2. Realmadkids set the pace from the start and took out the win 5-4. They make it 2 wins in a row.

Fresh off the bye, Nuffies United were raring to go against Cules. A fast start to the game gave Nuffies United the jump. They were victorious 7-3.

Mafia were keen to make amends for their loss last week and came out hot against Just Play Wildcats. They proved too strong winning 9-1 putting Mafia back on the winners list.

Both Be Kind Rewind and Chicks with Kicks have shown serious skills early in the season. The contest was back and forth all game with each team scoring from everywhere. It came down to the wire, but Be Kind Rewind held on for the win, 6-5.
