Palm Beach SC will be kicking goals for a worthy cause this weekend in conjunction with Football Gold Coast and the support of Football Queensland.

All Football Gold Coast community clubs will donate money for every goal scored this Saturday to the Daniel Morecombe Foundation in a fundraising initiative called “Score For Daniel Day”.

The initiative has the backing of Palm Beach SC, who, in addition to their community teams playing in Football Gold Coast competition, will also make donations for goals scored by their PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland teams in all age groups this weekend.

The Daniel Morecombe Foundation was established by parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe in 2005 after their son Daniel was abducted and murdered in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast.

The Foundation was established as a lasting legacy to Daniel and now has two main aims - to educate children on how to stay safe in a physical and online environment, and to support young victims of crime.

Palm Beach SC General Manager Rob Morris said the club was eager to assist with promoting the Foundation’s message of “Keeping Kids Safe” in conjunction with Football Gold Coast.

“The Daniel Morecombe story is such a tragedy and if we can do anything to help stop that happening to a child in the future then we are happy to contribute,” Morris said.

“It’s something that as a club we have to support with the number of kids we have playing for us and it’s the right thing to do in general,” he added.

Football Gold Coast includes 26 clubs with over 6000 juniors across various age groups, with Palm Beach SC the region's sole representative in PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues competition.

The inaugural ‘Score for Daniel Day’ will be officially launched on Saturday 9th May 2015 at 10am at Ormeau Football Club and is supported by Football Queensland.

Bruce and Denise Morecambe will also be in attendance to show their support which is hoped will ultimately gain national support from all football clubs.
