Moreton Bay United's Premiership winning ‘super-sub’ Joseph Champness has been rewarded for a break-out season by joining Brisbane Roar Youth.

Brisbane Roar today confirmed the 18-year-old will be part of their Foxtel National Youth League team this summer - with the majority of the squad considered likely to be retained for their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2016 campaign should they maintain their performances through the summer.

Champness made his senior debut with Jets this year after previously figuring in the club’s youth and junior set-up.

He made 13 senior league appearances for the club in 2015, predominantly as an impact player off the bench, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering game-changing goals - including a crucial strike in Jets’ Semi-Final win over Olympic FC.

Champness said he was excited by the opportunity to join Roar and revealed the Hyundai A-League club had been interested in his talent for a year before signing him up.

“I trained with them last pre-season and got a phone call two weeks ago asking if I would like to come for a session,” Champness explained.

“It just went from there. They made me an offer and I said yes straight away. It’s a challenge and an opportunity I am very happy to have been given.”

He conceded that stepping into the Young Roar set-up demanded an increased training workload to which he is still adapting.

“Training five days a week is a bit different to three, but it’s going well. I’m playing with top-quality players and there’s nothing I’d rather be doing than playing football,” he concluded.

Jets’ Technical Director Adam Piddick said the move was a just reward for Champness’ dedication.

“He’s worked hard, bided his time, always been around that system and now he’s got his opportunity. I think he’s the type of guy who will take that opportunity,” Piddick said.

Champness becomes the fourth confirmed departure from Jets’ PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2015 Premiership and Championship winning squad.
