FNQ Heat have announced Craig Midgley as the club’s new Technical Director for the next three years.

Midgley joins the club from PlayStation 4 NPL New South Wales club Manly United, where he held the position of Technical Director for the past three years.

The 39-year-old joined the club as a player before moving into coaching, including a stint as assistant coach to current Central Coast Mariners coach Phil Moss.

Migley also played professionally in his native England, representing Bradford City, Hartlepool United and Halifax Town as a striker in a 13-year career.

His role at Heat will see him guide the club’s technical programmes, including the FNQ Heat Academy, and engage community clubs in the far north region.

Midgley said he was looking forward to his new role and renewing acquaintances with recently appointed Heat coach Tim Campbell, who was Youth coach at Hartlepool United during Midgley’s time at the club.

“Craig and I first met in 1998 in England where he and I shared time at the Hartlepool United Football Club,” Midgley said.

“I am very much looking forward to working together to build a strong future for not only our club, FNQ FC Heat, but also throughout the region’s football community.”

Midgley will officially take up the appointment with Heat in February next year to allow time to relocate his family from New South Wales - however, he was looking forward to the switch to the tropics.

“My partner Johanna and I are very excited to move to Cairns and will enjoy raising our children in this wonderful city,” he concluded.

FNQ Heat Chairman Colin Daly welcomed Midgley to the club and said he foresees him having a noticeable impact on the club’s technical operations in the far north region.

“We are delighted that Craig has accepted this appointment and especially delighted for all our aspiring younger academy players. Having a Technical Director of this calibre will be a huge boost for them in 2016,” Daly said.

“Craig’s appointment aligns with our new direction to promote football broadly in Far North Queensland.”

“We have been able to secure the services of one of the best-credentialed Technical Directors in Australia. He will bring significant experience and capabilities to the Heat and our football community,” Daly concluded.
