Pride Women Defeat GCC In Friendly

Western Pride Women started pre-season on a high with a 3-0 friendly win over Gold Coast City Women at Kippen Park on Saturday.

Len Manwaring’s tenure in charge of the Ipswich-based club began on a high note with three second-half goals seeing off last year’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women's Queensland Grand Finalists.

Following a scoreless first-half, the hosts broke the deadlock only minutes after the restart when Nikki Hubbard latched onto a pass from fellow attacker Melissah Von Bischoffshausen.

City were aiming to grab their first result of pre-season after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Logan Lightning Women prior to Christmas but were denied on several occasions by Pride goalkeeper Kirsten Veeren.

Two further goals from the home side in quick succession then put paid to hopes of a City fightback - Nikki Dawes first converted a penalty awarded for handball, before Von Bischoffshausen sealed victory after finding the top corner from just outside the penalty area.

Pride’s continue their preparations for the home-and-away season against SWQ Thunder Women in Gatton next weekend.

While City will look to bounce back against Moreton Bay United Women next Sunday.
