Thunder Lose Out To Lions

Words: Michael Flynn

SWQ Thunder had no reply to a second half hat-trick from Kado Aoci, losing 5-1 to Lions FC in their final BLK Silver Boot match at Lions FC Stadium on Sunday.

Lions created the bulk of the chances early in the contest and but didn’t open the scoring until late in the half when Andrew Butler slotted his strike into the bottom corner.

The hosts doubled their lead four minutes after the restart courtesy of a deft flick from Shaun Carlos, however Thunder replied immediately when Majok Piok broke the offside trap before delivering a lobbed finish.

Aoci again restored the two goal buffer with a close range strike after the hour to open his personal tally.

Thudner goalkeeper Michael Pike kept his team in the contest with a series of sharp saves shortly after to deny Aoci and substitute Andrew Wolsey.

Aoci struck again ten minutes from time before securing his hat-trick in the final minutes to seal the result.

The loss is Thunder’s fourth of the pre-season from five games, following last week’s breakthrough win against Football Brisbane Trophy Superstore Premier League outfit Wolves FC.

Lions FC  5 (Andrew BUTLER 38’, Shaun CARLOS 49’, Kado AOCI 69’ 80' 88')
SWQ Thunder FC  1 (Majok PIOK 51’)
