Streak continues for Skyforce, Sealions, MOB

MANILA, Philippines -- The streak continues for pacesetters Skyforce, Sealions and MOB Alliance, which all improved to 3-0 over the weekend, in the 2013 Danny Espiritu Cup basketball tournament.

Skyforce wiped off an 18-point deficit and forged a 98-84 victory over Mighty Sports, which had two returning PBA legends on its roster, at the Treston Gym in Taguig last Sunday.

Trailing by 18 at the end of the first period, Skyforce answered with a quick barrage -- sparked by Ronjay Enrile, who had 19 points -- and then was leading by four still 2:50 left before halftime.

Mighty Sports was unable to recover from there as it absorbed another dent to its title retention bid even in Marlou Aquino and Kenneth Duremdes' return.

MOB Alliance also kept GlobalPort Batang Pier on a tailspin after a 105-91 triumph last Saturday at the Letran Gym in Manila.

Jopher Custodio led a red-hot MOB Alliance with four of their 14 triples to finish with 17 points. Macky Acosta and Jeff Viernes, who had three treys each, added 15 and 13, in that order.

Erwin Sta. Maria's 28 markers still weren't enough to get the Batang Pier staff over the hump as it reeled to a fourth loss in the tournament named after the country's top sports agent.

In the other game at Treston Gym, Ronnie Zagala and Gilbert Malabanan, this time, paced Sealions in disposing of pesky Expert Global Solutions (EGS), 80-74.

Zagala and Malabanan, who each had 19 points for Sealions, scored the timely buckets in the final eight minutes of the game which just kept EGS at bay after a deadlock at 57.
