Around the Grounds in the lower grades this week again saw some nail-biters thrown in amongst some heavy defeats.
Tuggeranong continued their undefeated start to the 2015 season in Second Grade, with Queanbeyan and Belconnen joining them in the winners’ circle.
Eastlake produced another dominant performance in the Rising Stars competition. Victories to Ainslie and Marist see them join the Demons at the top of the table.
Molonglo collected their second win in as many games, with ANU and Woden continuing their brilliant starts to the Third Grade competition.
Harman and ANU collected the points in Fourth Grade, with the sides still battling to go outright first on the table. Woden produced a spirited comeback to knock off ADFA/RMC.
In one of the best games of the round, Goulburn kicked away in the final term against Cootamundra to win, with Yass and Cooma rarely troubled as they shot off to victories.
In a week of blowouts in the Women’s Grade, Belconnen and Riverina continued the battle to be competition favourites, with Queanbeyan, Tuggeranong and Molonglo also notching up wins.
SECOND GRADE (ROUND 3):
Tuggeranong 21.18.144 defeated Eastlake 2.7.19
The Hawks continued their unbeaten run to the 2015 season with a comprehensive victory over the Demons. Jesse McPhail continued his good form to be named Best on Ground.
Queanbeyan 20.24.144 defeated Gungahlin 2.4.16
The Tigers collected the points for the first time this season after easily accounting for the Jets. Jack Murphy put up his hand for a First Grade call up, taking Best on Ground honours.
Belconnen 13.15.93 defeated Ainslie 9.4.58
Three goals from Matthew Keys propelled the home side to their second win of the season, leaving them sitting in third position on the ladder.
RISING STARS (ROUND 3):
Eastlake 29.16.190 defeated Tuggeranong 2.1.13
The Demons confirmed their spot as the team to beat early in the Rising Stars season with six goals to Liam Rapley leading his side to a huge 177-point victory.
Marist 10.14.74 defeated Queanbeyan 6.3.39
Marist collected their second win in as many games to move in to third on the table. Dean Simpson kicked two goals on his way to collecting the Best on Ground points.
Ainslie 17.9.111 defeated Belconnen 4.3.27
Five goals to none in the second term set up a big win for the Tricolours. Nicholas Beaumont’s was judged the best afield as his side moved in to second on the ladder.
THIRD GRADE (ROUND 6):
Molonglo 13.7.85 defeated Batemans Bay 10.9.69
The Juggernauts returned home with the points after holding off a determined Batemans Bay outfit. Finishing with one man on the bench, Coach Trevor Treloar labelled it as the toughest win he’s seen at the club.
ANU 26.11.167 defeated UC 3.2.20
ANU emerged victorious in the first clash of the students, with Aaron Douglas slotting for goals on his way to a Best on Ground performance.
Woden 21.14.140 defeated ADFA/RMC 5.7.37
The Blues bounded out to a five-goal lead at quarter time and never looked back, kicking at least five majors in each term to solidify their place in second spot on the ladder.
FOURTH GRADE (ROUND 6):
Harman 14.12.96 defeated Molonglo 4.3.27
Harman flexed their muscle early on, not conceding a point in the opening term as they pushed out to a four goal lead. The win sees the Hogs remain second on the table on percentage.
ANU 22.12.144 defeated UC 5.5.35
The Griffins shot out of the blocks early, taking a ten-goal lead in to the main break. The Magpies couldn’t find an answer, as ANU finished with a 109-point victory.
Woden 13.10.88 defeated ADFA/RMC 10.5.65
ADFA/RMC held a 21-point lead at quarter time, and went in to the main break up by nine, but a second-half comeback from Woden proved too much for the home side with the Blues taking the points.
REGIONAL GRADE (ROUND 6):
Goulburn 14.20.104 defeated Cootamundra 12.10.82
Just two points separated the sides leading in to the last quarter, but it was the Swans that kicked away with the lead and took the points.
Yass 17.16.118 defeated Ainslie 3.5.23
Yass produced their most dominant game of the season at Alan Ray Oval, toppling the hosts off the back of a dominant second term.
Cooma 16.19.115 defeated Tuggeranong 6.14.50
Daniel Wicks slotted six majors to lead the Cats to a big win over the Hawks. A tight tussle in the first term, a dominant second quarter allowed the hosts to run away with it.
WOMEN’S GRADE (ROUND 3):
Belconnen 10.6.66 defeated Eastlake 4.4.28
Belconnen have well and truly established themselves as the team to beat after three rounds, knocking over fifth-placed Eastlake with a dominant performance.
Queanbeyan 7.9.51 defeated ANU 0.2.2
Lani Watson kicked three goals and took Best on Ground honours as the Tigerettes cruised past ANU, only conceding two behinds all day.
Riverina 5.6.36 defeated Gungahlin 1.2.8
Riverina remain one of only two unbeaten teams after three rounds, toppling fellow finals contender Gungahlin as Nicole Keir produced a Best on Ground performance.
Tuggeranong 13.11.89 defeated Ainslie 0.0.0
Tuggeranong were dominant all over the park as they kept the opposition scoreless. Annie Ghirardello moved to first on the competition goal-scorers list, booting four majors.
Molonglo 7.13.55 defeated ADFA/RMC 2.0.12
The Juggernauts came away with their first win for season 2015, with Olivia Thornton kicking two goals in a Best on Ground performance.
