The Host Organising Committee of the PNG Games has taken delivery today of almost K900,000 worth of sports equipment, including a full range of track and field equipment. Athletics PNG President Tony Green was on hand to witness the arrival of the equipment and thank the HOC through its Chairman and former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Sir Rabbie Namaliu.
The equipment which includes $47,000 worth of electronic timing equipment; Pole Vault pit ; Steeplechase hurdles; High Jump equipment; 90 hurdles; starting blocks and throwing implements will be used at the Games which commence on 24 November and then remain in Kokopo for the benefit of East New Britain athletics. "A grass track will be used for these Games but work is expected to commence early next year on the construction of an eight lane all weather track" said Green
Athletics PNG Secretary and IT specialist George Moramoro is looking forward to assembling the electronic timing equipment in advance of the arrival of Tom Brandt from University of Queensland. Former long term PNG resident Brandt will attend the Games to operate the photo finish camera.
