Williamstown has been handed a home Semi-Final against East Perth in the Foxtel Cup.
The match will be played at Etihad Stadium on the 9th of July, starting at 5pm AEST.
The game being played in Melbourne allows Seagulls fans to get down and watch the Gulls in action for the first time in this newly formed competition. Williamstown has travelled to Perth and Adelaide in the first two weeks of the competition and will welcome playing in their home state in front of their supporters.
If Williamstown is successful in beating East Perth, they will most likely be heading back to Adelaide or Perth for the final of the competition, depending on results.
Williamstown Football Manager Chris Dixon said the game was a great chance for Seagulls fans to support the side in the new competition.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for our members and supporters to support us in the Foxtel Cup. We had a few of the very loyal supporters travel to Perth and Adelaide with us for our first matches, however we were definitely outnumbered by Swan Districts and West Adelaide supporters. It will be great to get as many supporters to the game and really give our players a home ground advantage.”
Dixon said it’s exciting as the competition reaches its conclusion.
“We’re down to the Semi-Finals now and we’re really starting to see the best teams come up against each other. We’re up against another quality West Australian side that beat North Ballarat in the first round of the competition. We’re expecting a tough game against a quality opposition. Our Assistant Coach Jeremy Barnard is a 3 time premiership captain of East Perth and there’ll be no doubt he’ll want to notch a win over his old side.”
The one remaining quarter final match between Port Adelaide and North Adelaide will be played this weekend, with the winner of that game facing Claremont in the other Semi Final.
