Flying Fijian helps revive basketball

Former national rugby winger Issac Mow is behind the revival of the Raiwaqa Basketball competition.

Mow who owns the Beauty Spot Hair and Food Court yesterday answered the call from Raiwaqa Basketball Association to sponsor the event after a lapse of four years.

Mow who was raised in Raiwaqa said it was an honour to sponsor such an organised competition and gave something back to the place where he grew up as a small boy.

He said with his passion for Raiwaqa, he has given his time and wealth to sponsor the Raiwaqa Basketball revival competition.

“I wanted to sponsor this competition so I could give back something to Raiwaqa where I grew up,” the former Marist Brothers High School sprinter said.

“I’m happy to sponsor the event and I feel proud about it. I grew up from this area and setting aside the differences in sports I answered their request to sponsor the revival of basketball in Raiwaqa.

“It’s a good thing to sponsor such competition that would keep youths occupied in useful things rather than ending up in being caught with illegal activities.”

He said youths have engaged themselves in training for the competition before the big day on Saturday and he believes it would keep them out from their mischievous acts.

“It’s better to get this to support as organised sports help the youths stay out of trouble.”

Mow said during their time they engaged themselves in disorganised sports and wants to change all that. “Basketball is out of action for the past for the past four years and reviving it this Saturday is an absolute thing for me.”

Mow thanked the organisers for coming up with such great initiative to revive the sport and also help youths to stay away from trouble.
