Young Grace gears up for Singapore Youth Camp in December

On Saturday the 21st of November the staff from FASANOC lead by Glynis Miller ( Chief De Mission) organised a meeting at 9 am at the FASANOC board room. Basketball was represented in the meeting by successful applicant Grace Taito, her parents Ned and Malika Taito and Basketball Development Officer Laisiasa Puamau. Also present at the meeting was the other successful sporting applicant Norman Bentley a form 6 student of Yat Sen, his parents and badminton official Barry Whiteside.

The one hour meeting which was conducted by Glynis Miller was to update the two parties on the significant of the Youth Camp and the goals and objective's of the 6 day camp. Also discussed was the travelling itineraries, camp program and other roles required from the two young and promising representative.

Out of the 14 sporting federations affiliated to FASANOC basketball and badminton applicant had been successful. Basketball Fiji would like to say A BIG VINAKA VAKA LEVU for giving a growing and developing federation like Basketball Fiji the opportunity to send a promising basketball athlete like Grace Taito to the leadership camp in Singapore.

Grace Taito who is a 15 year old form five student at Latter Day Saints Church College in Tamavua will have the unique experience and opportunity to learn other countries sporting and traditional cultures make life long friends and most importantly learn the principle and values of the Olympics.  

Grace comes from a very promising academic and basketball background where at the tender age of 14 was part of the National U20 Women's Team that won bronze in the recent 2008 FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament in Guam. At 15 Grace opted to jump two age groups, using her international experience to guide her school to winning the U19 girls title in the Twisties sponsored 2009 National Secondary Schools Championships in August. Grace also plays in the Raiwaqa Basketball Players League for the newly formed talented team X- Wounds. Grace is a young and promising basketball player and with the right guidance and opportunities will go far in the sport.

Basketball Fiji believes that the camp will add value to Graces leadership qualities and the camp will provide her with the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience that will not only add value to her life but also to the players and peers around her.
