Basketball giants to vie for trophy

IT will be a clash of the titans when Waidonu takes on the Barbarians in the Raiwaqa Basketball competition on Saturday. Waidonu basketball team wants to be the first side to snatch the Tu Vili Cinavi trophy away from the Barbarians. The Barbarians were the first team to register their name on the newly introduced trophy last season. They defended the trophy in three games to have a reason to celebrate their Christmas and New Year. Previously they beat the Mighty Mights two weeks ago and would face the tough challenge from Waidonu this weekend. Waidonu with the likes of Nicholas Wong, Peniasi Sokosoko and Arron Ayuk would try to tag their name on the trophy. However the Barbarians with the likes of Laisiasa Puamau, David Whippy and Adrian Bossley will be a side to reckon with. Raiwaqa basketball official Saula Koroi said the match would be an interesting one as both sides were laced with national reps. "It will really be a close encounter and the team that defends well will be the winner at the end of the day." "Both teams have good players but defence will be the main key at the end of the day," he said. "Barbarians have been tough to beat but I believe the challengers will be fully prepared to face an uphill battle against the defending champs," Koroi said. The challenge match kicks off at 4pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile the Raiwaqa basketball league continues this weekend.
