The tournament will run for three days, with the round robin starting yesterday and continuing today with the finals to be played tomorrow. Puamau said that the tournament started on a high with a lot of enthusiasm. "The atmosphere is good and the spirits are high," he said. "The basics is slowly coming and it's showing which shows that the coaches have been passing on their message and are well received and the onus is really on the them to teach the players the basics of the game." "And the coaches are doing a good job as well since they are just teaching them the fundamentals of the game and not teach high level basketball which can be a mistake." "The total number of schools taking part this year is 47 include the ones from the Western and Central Division with a total of 470 registered players and the numbers have gone up by six this year. "This shows the interest has grown," he said The winner of the tournament will walk away with a shield prepared by the Fiji Prisons Service. THE Yat Sen Secondary School basketball U19 boys' side will be looking to successfully defend its title in this year's secondary school basketball tournament. Tuivanualevu admitted that their biggest threat of the tournament will be Marist Brothers High School but his has been preparing well for the tournament. "We have been preparing for quite sometime for this tournament but we got serious with it last week and we have had one week of training where we train in the morning and also in the afternoon," he said. YSS is in pool 2 with Natabua High School, Indian College and Gospel High School. Marist heads pool 1 with Later Day Saints College, International Secondary School and Ba Provincial in the pool.
