Lautoka b'ball starts

THE Lautoka Basketball Association will hold friendly games at the Sugar City multipurpose courts tomorrow as a build-up to the league competition which is expected to start in a fortnight's time.

Teams that have been confirmed for tomorrow's matches include Vikings, Young Stars, Nadi, Natabua, Cougars and Namoli in the men's division and Batiri, Vikings, Namoli and Natabua in the women's division.

Vikings are the champions in both the divisions.

Lautoka Basketball Association official Jale Vunisa said a team from Nadi had always been supporting their competition.

He said the entry for the league competition was open.

"We hope to attract several clubs in both the men's and women's divisions," Vunisa said.

"Interest in the sport was high last season and we are expecting the same this season.

"Once we confirm the final number of clubs then we will start the league competition.

"We also hope to organise a few tournaments. This would most probably be next year."
