QVS upset Yat Sen

Queen Victoria School are slowly stamping their mark in the basketball arena after their Under-19 team scored a 20-19 win over tournament favourites Yat Sen Secondary School yesterday.
The win was the biggest upset in the second day of the Tuckers Ice Cream Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said for a new comer to defeat traditional giants YSS in the competition showed how much work the students and teachers put in to develop the sport at the school.
“Schools have really done a lot prior to the competition and we thank the teachers especially from the West and the new comers like Dilkusha and QVS,” he said yesterday.
“The interest level from the students is very encouraging, they’ve been here early mornings and it’s challenging us the organisers. Their enthusiasm level is very high.”
Puamau added that the interest shown by students has made the tournament a success.
“The new teams are slowly grasping the skills of basketball and those that have been part of the tournament have shown excellent skill level.
“Obviously there’s a gap between the newcomers and the old players but after the second day, I believe the more basketball played by the newcomers the better they will become.”
