Financial support for Raiwaqa basketball tournament

THE Raiwaqa Basketball Association received a sponsorship boost only a day before their provincial tournament began.

The tournament begins today at Ed's Court in Raiwaqa and Kavatoks injected some money to help the organisers with the prizemoney.

Competition organiser Peniasi Kainamoli said the provincial tournament was first played two years ago.

"That was the only tournament we had and we were not able to host another because of lack of finances," he said.

"And this year's tournament was supposed to be played a month ago but again we faced financial difficulties and we are so thankful to Kavatoks for coming forward to answer our prayers."

Kavatoks operations manager Paul Boga said their company was new to Fiji and was only launched in during the Hibiscus Festival in August.

"We are happy to be associated with RBA and even though we are a new company, we are keen on helping with the development of sports in the country," he said.

Kainamoli said they would have both men's and women's competitions.

"We have two men's team and one women's team from Tailevu, two men's and one women's team from Lomaiviti, two men's and one women's team from Lau, one men's team each from CBM, Rewa and Kadavu will bring a men's and women's teams.

"Lau is defending the men's title while Tailevu is defending the women's title."

Competition will run for the next four weeks.
