Tuckers supports secondary schools basketball

Goodman Fielder will sponsor the Tuckers National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
Basketball Fiji president Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua said the sponsorship, worth $25,000, provides a platform for students to showcase their talents with the opportunity of further development.
“We would like to thank Goodman Fielder for the assistance,” Naivalurua said.
“This sponsorship is an indication of the commitment and the belief the company have for Basketball Fiji towards the development our young men and women. “The money will be used well for basketball and development. “It is in line with our slogan
‘It’s more than just basketball.’ We want to move forward onto bigger and greater things.”
Since Goodman Fielder’s partnership with Basketball Fiji in 2009, the number of teams involved has grown from 41 to more than over 70 teams this year.
Goodman Fielder general manager Chris Zaayman praised Basketball Fiji for their efforts. The schools championship will have teams from the Eastern, Western and Central Division. New schools from the West include Tilak High School, Jasper Williams High, Xavier College and St John’s College from Levuka.
The championships will be played on August 25-28 and will be an opportunity for players to make it into the national team to the FIBA Oceania U19 World qualifiers on December 1-8 in Suva.
