Oceania says GOOD LUCK FIJI

Judy Smith, Special Projects Managers for FIBA Oceania, has contributed this article:

About 12 years ago, I met two Fiji coaches  - Bob Tuxson and Michael Whippy.  They were both coaching teams in the Fiji Championships, and both had the desire to see their 'girls' get better and better.  Both of them have put an enormous number of hours into developing their knowledge of the game, and the skills of their players.  While Bob is no longer in Fiji, I am sure he is following the progress of this National team with great interest.

I know there will be no prouder people in the whole world than Bob and Michael, when Fiji steps onto that first court in Spain.

For me personally, to see the Fiji colours on the World scene is a dream come true.   I have such wonderful memories of a very young Val Nainima and Mickaelar Whippy, of Agnes Sokosoko and Agie Tuilevuka, and Mareta Mani and a very young referee Seini Dobui.  To see these girls now adventuring onto Spain is so inspirational and rewarding.

I know all the Oceania Basketball family will be keenly watching the game results from Spain, and they all join me in wishing each and every one of you the very best of luck.  We know you will be great representatives of our wonderful Oceania region, and your smiles and laughter will let the rest of the world know just what a magical place our Oceania is.

We all hope you enjoy seeing the sights of Spain as well, perhaps even a famous Spanish bullfight.

Our love, prayers and best wishes go to you all.
