Sikivou in Oceania All Star team

The 19-year old Narocivo lad from Rewa said hard work and perseverance has paid off for him.

He said it was his dream to achieve the highest level any basketball player can achieve and making it to this FIBA is the first step for him.

"It all goes back to the amount of time you spent training and how desperate you're in making your dreams a reality," Sikivou said.

"My dream is to play the highest level of basketball and this is the first step towards it after being named in to the national U 20 side."

"Being named into this Oceania all star team is just to make up missing out on the gold medal during the Oceania competition."

Sikivou who is the son of former national reps Mosese and Elizabeth Sikivou said his family moulded him to be the type of person who could strive for greater things during his playing career.

"We sometimes get to fight for the best basketball player in the family boasting of our achievements," he laughed.

The first year student of USP said even though he's named alongside the best players in the Oceania he's expecting the competition to be a good exposure for him.

"It will be a good learning experience and I'm looking forward to play in the competition."

He said he just can't wait for next year. Sikivou and Manoa Puamau will play for the men's team while national U20 women's captain Ofa Moce and Brittany Hazelman are also being named in the women's team.

These players are given training programmes to follow before meeting the rest of the players two weeks prior to the game.
