Raiwai revives 3on3 format

Raiwai Basketball Association had gone a step further with their development programme being the first association in the country to start the 3on3 format when their weekly competition commences next month.
The 3on3 format uses only half of the court and only three players were allowed to play while the rest on the reserve bench.

RBA official Kelevi Serukalou said they would be the first association to use the format.

He said they wanted to being the new 3on3 format because they had set new height to achieve on the world stage.

“These 3on3 format features three players in one team against the other three on the other side. We wanted to develop this so we could eye the international meets in the future,” Serukalou said.

Fiji last hosted this format three years ago against a touring team but Serukalou said they wanted to revive the new format again in the country.

“It has faded so we’re trying to revive it and now we are starting it again in our own association.”

RBA has also implemented a weekly competition for young interested basketball players as young as nine years old to.

“We had gone back to the grassroot level and we want to revive the interest of players from this young age,” he said.By EMONI NARAWA
