Nadi Juniors upsets Vikings

Newcomers Nadi Juniors made a strong start to their adopted Lautoka Basketball league competition beating Muanivatu Vikings 53-50 at the Lautoka Multipurpose courts over the weekend.

Nadi Juniors was one of the new teams that had confirmed their participation with Lautoka this season.

Packed with some former national reps they reached the semi finals of the Easter Basketball Championship in Suva last year but last weekend they defeated the champions Vikings side.

LBA secretary Simi Cagilaba said the league had a wonderful start with some upsets.

He said they were able to play only two games due to the lack of communication with the organizers before the league started.

“It was really a good start for despite only two games were played I’m happy that we’re able to start the new season again. Nadi Juniors had a very awesome start beating one of our top team Vikings,” Cagilaba said.

“They proved to be a good team. They’re no strangers to basketball but eventually they were newcomers to the league but that does not rule them out to be one of the favourites in the league.”

“It showed that the competition had gone top another level and teams are fully prepared before their league games. The Juniors had been playing for the past three years and they proved to be one of the threats to this year’s league beating Vikings in their first league game,” he said.

“They were plenty teams present on Saturday night but due to miscommunication from us the organizers only two games were played. We did not release the draws and some teams did not have the players’ numbers which we disallowed them top play.”

Cagilaba said they would try and improve from that this week for the betterment of the sport in Lautoka.
