Round 9

League Women Thursday – Uni Rebels v Eagles

Edith Boundry sent the Eagles packing with a couple of late free throws in ‘overtime’ that lifted the Uni Rebels to a narrow 56-55 win that got them within one game of second place on the ladder. Boundry was on fire, finishing with a team and game high 21 points. Ambah Kowcun chipped in with 16 and Danielle Ponter added 15. The game was close all the way with the teams finishing up regulation play with 52 points apiece. In the overtime Ponter hit a bucket and Boundry sealed it with the free throws. All the Eagles could manage in the OT was a three pointer from Trish Graham. A tough loss for the Birds but a much needed win for the Rebels. Lillian Williams led the Eagles with 14 with Graham and Michelle Friel hitting 12 each and Alysha-Marie Williams 11.

Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

Ansett was no match for the Tracy Village Jets. The Bombers thumped them well and truly 84-27 to run their win streak out to 10 in a row. The Bombers held the Blues to just 12 first half points while shooting away to a 30-12 half time lead. After the break the Jets cranked up their transition game and took off on a 54-15 second half run to put the game on ice. Tikesa Docherty-Cole hit a season high 26 points to lead all scorers. Backing Docherty-Cole up was Tahnee De Santis with 17 and Delsey Ah Wang with 16. Remii Watts-Smith top scored for the Blues with 9.

Lightning v Razzle

Razzle won their third game of the season by beating the Lightning in a squeaker 47-46. Lailani Triffitt hit a season high 18 to guide the green and gold to victory with help from Johanna Hayes who also hit double figures with 11. A solid start by the Razzle had them in front 11-5 after one quarter, but the Lightning hit back behind Emma Carbone to be ahead 19-18 at half time. Razzle went on a 17-12 run led by Triffitt & Hayes in the third quarter to be up by 4 at 35-31 with a quarter to go. Lightning put the pressure on, but the green and gold held on by the barest of margins to win the game. Carbone & Yasmine De Curtins led the Lightning with 16 each.

League Men Thursday – Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

Travis Ellis hit a season high 36 points to lead the Tracy Village Jets to their sixth straight win since dropping the opening four games of the season. The Bombers handed the Uni Rebels their second loss in succession (a loss to the Eagles in Rd 8). The Bombers ran away with this one 87-51. Ellis had support from Michael MacLean who hit 19. The Jets flew out to a 20-13 first quarter lead and built that up to a 39-25 half time advantage. The Rebels mounted a challenge in the third quarter with a 13-9 run, but the Bombers took off in the last quarter with a 39-13 run to put a stop to any aspirations the Rebels may have had. Ellis had 17 in the last quarter. Aaron Simpson was the lone standout for the Rebels with 17.

Lightning v Ansett

The Lightning blasted an undermanned Ansett out of the air with an 81-48 hammering for their eighth win of the season. The win puts the Lightning in a tie with the Rebels for first place on the ladder. Ansett lifted off in the first quarter for a 23-19 lead, but the Lightning struck back with a 13-7 second quarter run to lead 32-30 at the major break. With most of their players back from holidays and trips away the Lightning got stuck into the Blues in the second half, lightning up the scoreboard with a 49-18 run that put the game out of reach for the Blues (who only scored 4pts in the last quarter). Craig Martin continued his good shooting form to hit a game high 21, Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson had 18, Karsten Oltrop 17 and Cameron Bailey 11. Matthes Flanegan hit 15 and Cooper Ehmer 11 for the Blues.

Eagles v Razzle

The Eagles torched the Razzle to the tune of 94-64 to solidify their fourth placing on the ladder. Deola Folarin hit a League and season high 39 to lead the Birds to the win with Jesse Williams-Hook nailing 20 and Chris Hart 18. The Birds rattled off 28 points to just 11 for the Razzle in the first quarter. Then the green and gold pegged back a couple of points with a 21-19 second quarter run to trail by 47-32 at the break. Unfortunately for the Razzle they failed to make any more inroads into the lead the Birds had built up. The Eagles outscored Razzle 47-32 in the half to claim victory. David Carroll hit 20, Nathan Radonich 15 and Stuart Peach 13 for the Razzle.

Ladder:                                                             UniRebels & Lightning 8-2, Tracy Village Jets 6-4, Eagles 5-5, Ansett 2-8 & Razzle 1-9

Next Week Round 10:                                        Thursday: Tracy Village Jets v Razzle  7:45pm. Friday: Lightning v Uni Rebels 6:15pm & Eagles v Ansett 7:45pm
