REP GAMES HIGHLIGHT BIG DAY AT BEERWAH
The annual ‘C’ Grade rep fixture between the SCGRL Red Rooster Cup team and the Rangers from Northern Districts (Northern Wide Bay) was a “ding dong” battle at Beerwah on Saturday. The combatants threw all they had at each other throughout a physical contest, the visitors gaining the upper hand in the latter stages to run out deserving winners by 24 points to 12.
A highlight of the action at Beerwah was the Under 20’s clash between the SCGRL Caloundra RSL Falcons and Bundaberg. Top position and a home final in the inaugural Central Division Under 20’s Challenge was on the line in this one, and the quality of footy from the youngsters was high as they felt each other out in a tight first half. The locals took a slender 8-6 lead to the break, with the result anyone’s until mid-way through the second stanza. The Falcons had a little more in the tank when it mattered however, solid defence keeping the Bundy boys scoreless and capitalising on opportunities of their own to run in 4 second half tries. The 32-6 result has secured a home final against Rockhampton, who held the Falcons to a draw in their preliminary match last month.
