Solo Cup Finals Action

The eight (8) remaining teams in the Solo Cup met at BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour on Saturday in the first of the finals series matches to determine the eventual Grand Finalists in the inaugural knockout competition.

In the first of the Quarter Finals kicking off at 2.00pm, Weston Workers Bears came up against local club Coffs City United, whilst Woolgoolga FC had a short trip south to Coffs to clash with Valentine Phoenix. 

The NBN State League club showed little respect for the locals with Weston Workers Bears 4 (Rob Macbeth, Michael Ryan (2), Matt Toohey) defeating Coffs City United 1 (Ben Mackay). 

In Quarter Final 2, Woolgoolga FC 0 was defeated by Valentine Phoenix 3 (Nathan McAllister, Nathan Conglaves, Alex Read). 

In the remaining Quarter Finals kicking off at 4.00pm, Maclean FC 1 (Jarrod Doyle) were defeated by Broadmeadow Magic 6 (David Baille, Simon Mooney (2), Peter Haynes, Ben Martin, Andrew Hoole)  with Oxley Vale Attunga 3 (Lachlan Brown (2), Chris Foto) defeated by Toronto Awaba 8 (Todd Cawley (3), Christian Okonkwo, Wilson Edwards, David McPherson (3)).

The four (4) remaining teams in the Solo Cup then met on Sunday morning to decide the Grand Finalists who will contest the inaugural Solo Cup title on August 4th in Newcastle.

The two Semi Finals kicked off at BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour at 11.00am, with Broadmeadow Magic playing Weston Workers Bears and Valentine Phoenix meeting Toronto Awaba.

In Semi Final 1, an own goal by Broadmeadow's Josh Piddington was the decider, giving Weston Workers Bears the win 3-2 over Magic.

Broadmeadow's goal scorers were Alex Johnson-Young and Peter Haynes, with Weston's goals coming from Rhys Tippett and Robbie Turnbull.

In the second Semi Final, Valentine Phoenix defeated Toronto Awaba 3-1.

Valentine's goals were scored by Jordy Campbell, Nathan McAllister and Chris Gazzard, with Toronto's only goal coming from Wilson Edwards.  

The Final of the Solo Cup between Weston Workers Bears FC and Valentine Phoenix FC, will be held on Wednesday 4th August at Thomas and Coffey Park, Weston, kicking off at 7:30pm.
