Hillcrest High and Westlake Boys Win National Titles

Hillcrest High won the girls section and Westlake Boys the boys section of the NZ Police National Secondary Schools finals in Wellington.

Hillcrest High is in Hamilton, Westlake Boys High is on the North Shore.  Westlake Girls and Massey High were the respective runners-up

The girls final was particularly tight; Hillcrest High led 3-1 but could not win the forth match as Westlake won the last two matches of the tie meaning the matches were tied at 3 all, games were also tied at 8 all so it was a countback of points to find the winner; Hillcrest High by 29 points.  Epsom Girls Grammar defeated Saint Kentigern College 4-2 to claim third place

In the boys final there was a clear cut winner with Westlake Boys too good for Massey High, Luke Charlesworth won both of his matches for Massey but they could not win any other matches against Westlake who have a long history of producing good badminton players; they have now won this title 6 times in the last 7 years.
