Aussie Mixed maintains clean slate

AFTER drawing with the Fiji One Mixed 43-all on Day 4, Australia pulled up their defensive wall around the Fiji Two team for a hard earned 61-35 win on Day 5.

In contrast though were the shooting stats with the winners missing nine attempts compared to Fiji's one.

Results were much closer at half time with Australia leading 26-27 but this lead was extended in the remaining two from 45-27 to the final 61-35.

The end-results could have been much closer if not for the speedy Australian mid-court of Center Scott Fort, Wing Defender Jennifer Jamieson who caused countless turn-overs and intercept in the third and final quarter.

Fiji suffered as players were continuously penalized in mid-court for infringements.

Consistency once again was the key for the Australians. Lee Apthorpe came in at half-time to replace Jason Woolley and scored 32 points in the remaining two quarters.

For Fiji, Tuimasi Meya put in 15 points with Matelita Shaw slotting in the other 20 points.

The Fiji One Mixed team went on to play their Team One just under two hours later and were impressive enough to almost beat them going down 56-44.

Fiji One Mixed had drawn the Aussies 43-all the previous day.

In another other Mixed game of the day, Cook Islands put up a good fight losing to New Zealand 87-56.

Half-time score was 43-24.
