Trojans finish sixth

The Taranaki Trojans women's basketball team had to settle for sixth at the national championships in Dunedin.

In their playoff game for fifth, the Trojans lost 81-58 to the Hutt Valley Flyers. Toni Schrader led the Taranaki scoring with 14 points.

Hannah Fleming and Terai Sadler both scored 13. The Nelson Sparks won the title, trouncing Waitakere West Auckland 61-40 in the final.

Nelson, who finished second last year, were unbeaten this year in the playoffs. Defending champions Otago Goldrush beat Harbour Breeze 54-49 in the playoff for third.
