NPBA Joins Basketball Pacific New Zealand

NPBA are excited to announce they have joined Basketball Pacific New Zealand with a view to grow and develop the game of basketball in the region. Basketball Pacific formed some 20 years ago as an inter-regional initiative with four northern basketball associations – North Harbour, Counties-Manukau, Hamilton and Whangarei. It has since extended to include Waitakere City, Thames-Valley, Rotorua and Tauranga basketball associations.

Basketball Pacific’s objective is hold events and programs which focus on the development of Players, Coaches, Referees and scorebench staff.

Annual events include an Easter tournament; Regional Jamboree for Under 12’s; the Great Murray River Jamboree and the Pacific Coast Slam tournament held at Port Macquarie. The program includes Coach Development sessions, Referee Development programs; Referee Educator and Evaluator programs, Scorebench Clinics and Player Development clinics in association with Australian Coaches.

Kevin Fenwick, NPBA President stated: “The association is extremely excited at the prospect of being part of Basketball Pacific. This will provide excellent development opportunities for our younger players. We look forward to the next event which is the Easter Tournament to held in Tauranga. This tournament already has over 120 teams participating annually. NPBA will enter boys and girls teams in the U12, U13, U15, U17, U19 Mens and U21 Womens grades. We have coaches lined up and trials will be underway shortly”.
