Allen gives Sorell's forward line focus

FRESH from a week's rest after a bye, Sorell is raring to go in its pivotal SFL clash with Central Hawks at Pembroke Park today.
Both teams go into the clash unbeaten, but the Hawks have played one extra match.
Eagles' coach Fabian Ackroyd has recruited well during the off-season, including gaining the services of former AFL player and Statewide star Scott Allen. A win for the home side would have the team placed nicely ahead of a looming tough five-week assignment, which includes competition favourites Lindisfarne, New Norfolk and Dodges Ferry all in a row.
``We are very confident with the side we are putting on the park,'' Ackroyd said yesterday.
``Having played in the elimination final last year, from my perspective as a coach it was identifying areas we needed to recruit and improve on.
``We have recruited and retained a lot stronger forward line structure with Scott Allen coming on board as a playing assistant coach.
``With AFL and Statewide experience and coaching experience, he certainly brings a wealth of knowledge.
``The next month and a half will shape our season but we are not looking any further than [today].''
Allen may be the focal point up forward, but the Eagles are far from a one-trick pony with crafty small Trent Standen, Chris Crossin and Glendon Bentley all dangerous around goals.
The Hawks, who have defeated Claremont, Cygnet and Triabunna in their opening three matches, are missing captain Jarrod Horne but still possess plenty of experience in their side.
Vice-captains Damien Thompson and Richard Headlam can provide plenty of drive through the middle, Troy Branch and Scott Brazendale can be damaging running off the half-back line while Scott Drury sits third on the goalkicking tally with 16 for the season.
Reigning Regional League premier Huonville (0-3) has had a disastrous start to the year, but gets the chance to open its account against the also winless Brighton at Pontville.
Cygnet, Claremont and Triabunna will have their work cut out to open their accounts against Dodges Ferry, New Norfolk and Lindisfarne respectively.
Kingborough has the bye.
