Damp Blues ground Eagles

LINDISFARNE remains undefeated after clinching a 23-point victory over Sorell in the SFL yesterday, though the same cannot be said for the team's spirits.

The Blues made fast and concise play in the first half at Anzac Park, before the Eagles outscored them in the final two quarters.

Blues coach Daniel Willing was disappointed in his team's complacent performance and failure to adapt to the wet conditions.

Had the game been only minutes longer Sorell coach Fabian Ackroyd is convinced his team would have been victorious.

Lindisfarne was up by 26 points at quarter-time after solid work in the midfield and error-free play by forwards Jamie Tubb and Tim Bracken.

Bracken's athleticism continued to shine in the second quarter with another goal and a screamer worthy of mark of the year, which he quickly disposed to Gavin Quirk, who scored a major.

Play was brought to a halt late in the second when in-form Blue Justin Myers was assisted off the field with concussion and taken to hospital.

By half-time the Blues had extended their lead to 46 points.

A half-time breather reinvigorated the Eagles, who stole the show in the third quarter, scoring 21 points to the Blues 15.

Newcomer Ben Walker, 18, was outstanding on the Eagles' backline, putting a damper on Bracken's second half.

Scott Allen and Troy Hitchins were standouts as a key targets on the Eagles' forward-line.

The Eagles almost doubled their score in the final quarter, with a further six goals that closed in on the home side to finish 13.10 (88) to the Blues 16.15 (111).

Despite the win, Willing said he was disappointed in his team.

``When we get a nice lead the boys just seem to lapse,'' Willing said.

``We expect things to happen rather than making them happen; it's really disappointing.''

The wet conditions also didn't assist the Blues, Willing said.

``We just don't have the experience in these conditions and we failed to adapt, which nearly cost us the match.''
