Tough challenge for SFL rep players

SFL representative coach Andrew Lamprill will push for the league to allow clubs to use 24 players in club games next weekend -- with the clash against the NTFL the next day.

Kermandie's demise from the league three weeks from the start of the season caused a re-shuffle of the roster at the 11th hour, with the representative game already locked in on June 28.

An option to play two SFL rounds over the Queen's Birthday long weekend -- one on Saturday and one on Monday-- was knocked back by the clubs, leaving no alternative but to play round 12 of the SFL the day before the annual north versus south blockbuster.

This will leave Lamprill with a number of tired and sore bodies but he is confident the players putting their hands up will still do so with honour.

Adding two extra players to an extended bench will allow representative players more rest during club games, while Lamprill is relying on individuals to undertake their own post-match rehabilitation to ensure they are as fresh as possible before facing the NTFL.

``We are working against it a bit, but I think we will put a pretty good team on the ground,'' Lamprill said.

``We are trying to organise so they can have six interchange players next week so they can look after blokes in the rep team.

``I've spoken to some of the players from the clubs, the ones who are really keen are going to do the right thing, they will do their rehab after the game. Obviously a few of the older boys will be a bit sore though.''

The initial squad will be trimmed back this week, with training sessions at North Hobart Oval Monday and Wednesday to determine the final 25 or 26.

Last year the SFL went down to the NTFA by 25 points, while earlier this season the NTFL and NTFA played out a thrilling draw.

New Norfolk has the most number of players in the SFL squad with 16, including the likes of Brad Carver, Leigh Post and Michael Thompson.
