LOCAL SFL footballers are fast learning to underestimate pint-sized Nathan Ross at their peril and South Australia could be next in line for New Norfolk's crafty forward. Ross, a 17-year-old spray painter, stands at just 154cm (5ft 1in in the old scale) -- but he doesn't let a lack of height deter his efforts. The Eagles pocket rocket will today get the chance to shine on a bigger stage when he lines up for Tasmania's under-23 side against South Australia. Last month Ross was among the SFL's best players in the representative match against the NTFL, despite being eligible to play in the under-19 game. His forward pressure, speed, goal sense and creativity all make up for his size and the teenager is raring to go for his biggest test of season 2009 so far. ``I'm pretty excited, we had a training session on Sunday and all the guys seem pretty keen and bonded well,'' he said. ``I will just treat it like I do every week. It will be interesting to see the talent and the different level though.'' The contest is part of the Australian Amateur Football Council triennial Series and will be the first time southern players have been represented. Ross will play alongside New Norfolk teammates Sam Hall, Brett Booth, Nick Clayton and Josh Hall, who also made the squad. Kingborough captain Jack Philp, Lindisfarne duo Brendan Johnson and Robert Harwood, Dodges Ferry's Jack Siggins, Sorell's Grant Williams and Triabunna's Brendon Midson round out the southern representatives.
