TRIABUNNA caused the upset of the SFL season yesterday, sensationally dumping last year's Regional League premiers Huonville out of the top six.
Anchored to the bottom of the ladder without a win and a percentage of just 32.71, the Kangaroos shocked the Lions with a 18.14 (122) to 15.13 (103) victory.
Coming off a 250-point hiding from New Norfolk last weekend, Triabunna set up the win with a dominant first half, when it kicked 13 goals to eight to open up a 27-point margin at half time.
The difference was extended further by the final change, and although the Lions reigned in the gap early in the last quarter, the home side held on for a famous victory.
``It's great for the club and everyone who helps out all the players,'' 39-year-old interim playing coach Brent Anderton said.
``We were down in the dumps after last weekend after getting thumped and to turn it around and win by 20 against a good quality outfit is amazing.
``There was a lot of emotion running around before the game, with Maurie Sparks [an 82-year-old volunteer who has been at the club for 60 years] not being well and the emotion got the guys fired up.''
The gigantic upset now leaves Huonville seriously battling to make the finals after Claremont jumped four points clear in sixth following a 23.19 (157) to 10.5 (65) hammering of Brighton.
The Lions have one game in hand on the Magpies, but will need to defeat the Central Hawks at Oatlands in the last round to see finals action, while Claremont is expected to win when it ends the season against Cygnet.
Dodges Ferry is planning to steal second spot from Lindisfarne after disposing of the Hawks 24.23 (167) to 4.5 (29) at Bothwell.
If Dodges can defeat Lindisfarne next weekend, the Two Blues would need to upset New Norfolk in the last round to regain second from the Sharks.
Kingborough leapfrogged the Hawks into fourth spot on percentage with a 21.11 (137) to 9.1 (55) win over Cygnet, while New Norfolk recorded another victory, by 97 points against Sorell.
