Lindisfarne seeks old form

LINDISFARNE may be staggering into the SFL finals but coach Daniel Willing is confident one good performance will help his side regain its mojo.
Having lost just two of their previous 35 matches up until three weeks ago, the Two Blues have dropped their past two in a row to surrender second spot.
And the task to halt the slide hits mission impossible today when the side hosts unbeaten New Norfolk at Anzac Park.
With an almost certain loss looming the Two Blues will head into the finals next weekend on the back of three straight defeats, but Willing has not hit the panic button.
The wet weather has made it impossible for Lindisfarne to get onto its home ground for training and the coach links this to the dip in form.
``It's not ideal and I think it has been confidence based, anyone who has watched us play knows when we are confident we are hard to stop,'' Willing said of the past fortnight.
``Due to the weather we haven't been able to train, we trained about twice in 10 weeks on the field and we lost a lot of touch and we were making mistakes and that becomes a confidence thing.
``We have slowly been able to train on the ground with balls for the last couple of weeks and training this
week has been exceptional.''
With the daunting task of trying to nullify the Eagles juggernaut, Willing has switched attention from the scoreboard to in-house key measures.
The Two Blues were embarrassed to the tune of 104 points last weekend by Dodges Ferry, which claimed second spot with the win.
Willing is banking on his troops to come out all guns blazing today to help restore lost pride.
``We have had a theme during the week about not talking about the result, it's about becoming competitive again.
``Last week we weren't competitive and even against the Central Hawks . . . the margin said we weren't beaten by much but we really weren't competitive in our areas that we know we need to be.''
Two other round 20 matches will shape the finals make-up, with Claremont able to lock in sixth if it can defeat Cygnet on the road.
However, if the Magpies slip up, Huonville can edge back into the top six if it can dismantle the Central Hawks at Oatlands.
Kingborough will be looking to fine-tune finals preparations with a win against Sorell at Pembroke Park, and Brighton or Triabunna -- who have just three wins between them for the season -- can finish the season on a high with a rare victory.
