Game two of this year's Interstate Challenge was a hotly contested affair, with Queensland almost causing an upset at Coolangatta football ground on the Gold Coast today. After a quick start which saw the Victorians opening their goal tally within thirty seconds of the opening bounce, the Queenslanders flooded and applied intense pressure in their back half. Inaccurate kicking plagued the Victorians for the remainder of the game, as Queensland took advantage of the visitors' difficulty in scoring. At one point the Victorians led by over thirty points but in thirty degree heat, the Queenslanders matched the Victorian running game in the final quarter to claw the back the deficit. At the final siren Victoria claimed the 2009 Interstate Challenge title with a thirteen point victory.
The third Interstate Challenge was the most successful yet, with both teams playing the most outstanding underage football seen in Australia to date. Victorian Captain, Alicia Eva, was named Victorian Player of the Championships.
