AFL North Coast
2008 Junior President's Report
The Swans visit must be the highlight of the year for the North Coast, although it was last year, as it provided the opportunity for the AFL to enter schools that have been almost no go zones for us previously, and allowed us to reach kids who had only known AFL on the TV.
Thanks to Kris French, Gill Woodlock and Shirley Linnett, the Swans dinner and raffle has given the Association the funds to provide the opportunity for a number of our players to progress their future in our sport, this year and in the future.
For the first time we have managed to have 3 players make the NSW State teams plus a player, play for the Sydney Swans U/18’s, there is only one more step for our Association’s players to achieve and that is to have a player actually be selected and signed by an AFL club and I am certain it will happen in the not too distant future.
Unfortunately our numbers are slightly down on last year but on the up side there has been an increase in the lower age groups and that can only be good for the growth of the clubs in the coming years.
A great deal of thanks for this must go to Shane and his hard working team for their efforts that has seen this growth in the sport within the school in the area, especially with clubs that have needed help.
Again AFL North Coast proved too strong for the AFL Northern Rivers in winning all 3 games in the Mike Kenny Memorial Shield Challenge, and my thanks must go to Michael Pearce, Dean Burkitt and Ronnie Gillingham along with their helpers for such a great result. More so we must thank Shirl and all her helpers for their even better result with the canteen which made Andrew smile due to the handsome profit that was retuned.
Again our B & F night proved to be a great success and our thanks have to go Greg for all his hard work again, and the hard work of a few members of the committee.
The finals were a success because of the hard work of those who set up fields, helped as goal umpires, time keepers and 100 board or in the canteen and most people would feel that the better teams won the finals.
I have to thank all of the committee for their hard work as they have made my job so very easy for this year and in fact for the past 4 years, I also include Gill and Jim when I mention our committee because they are always there for the kids, the association and me.
Tonight it is with deep regret that we have to accept the resignation of 2 of the long serving members of our committee, Andrew Duguid who has been our treasurer for the last 4 years and Geoff Haskew who has filled the position as Vice President and previously President, in total for 7 years, like us all no one is irreplaceable but these 2 people must be close to it, they will be so very hard to replace and will always be an important part of the history of this association. Again I must thank Geoff and Andrew for all their hard work over the years. It is a joint big thankyou from myself and also from the committee.
I am pleased to announce that the fees for the 2009 season of AFL North Coast Juniors will remain at $65.00 for Under 7’s and 10’s, with the Under 12, 14 & 16 fees remaining at $75.00.
