Juniors end season on the big stage

The AFL North Coast Juniors competition came to an end on Sunday at the BCU Stadium.

It was a fitting finale with three well fought-out matches highlighting the class of junior football on the North Coast.

The Under 12s was an epic with the crowd really getting behind both sides. The Coffs Swans eventually prevailed by a goal but not before a strong fight-back by the Kangaroos, led by Riley Channells. The composure of Jacob Sincock and Remi Bordignon was instrumental in the Swans’ victory.

The ledger was squared in the Under 14s with North Coffs defeating the Swans (again) by a kick. Cody Papley won best-on-ground honours and received able support from the likes of Kane Latham and Channells. Damien Attwood battled manfully for the Swans.

The Kangaroos’ claimed the Under 16’s title and led from start to finish against the Sawtell Saints. It was an even contest after quarter-time. Brendan Norton was confined to the forward line after a dominant first quarter in the ruck. Jack Campbell picked up the slack and was in the thick of the action and was clearly the best on the field. Again for the Saints, the trio of Lucas Nicholls, Blake Brissett and Patrick Gillingham capped off impressive seasons.

Final Scores:

U12: Coffs Swans 4-7-31 def. North Coffs 4-1-25

U14: North Coffs 6-3-39 def. Coffs Swans 4-8-32

U16: North Coffs 10-7-67 def. Sawtell 5-2-32

It was a very even season in the Juniors and Seniors this season; the end number of premierships highlights this between the clubs:

  • North Coffs- 2 premierships (Under 14s & 16s)
  • Sawtell- 1 premiership (Seniors)
  • Port Macquarie- 1 premiership (Reserves)
  • Nambucca Valley- 1 premiership (Under 18s)
  • Coffs Swans- 1 premiership (Under 12s)
